The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy’s mobile clinic regularly visits isolated Maasai communities in Northern Kenya. During one of these trips, while the staff were inoculating babies against polio, I heard a commotion through the trees and saw flashes of red amongst thick clouds of dust. After a short walk down a path, I came upon a group of schoolboys. They played as children do, undeterred by the sharpness of the surrounding acacia thorns, the unevenness of the ground or their deflated football.
